The West Africa Tourism Peace and Economic Integration Organization proudly celebrates the participation of its Volunteer CEO, Dr. Memunatu Pratt (Mrs), PhD, in the official book launching ceremony of China-Sierra Leone Relations: Friendship, Co-operation, and Win-Win Diplomacy The prestigious event was held at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Freetown.
Edited by Professor David Francis, the book commemorates over five decades of diplomatic partnership between China and Sierra Leone. It highlights the milestones, collaborative efforts, and enduring friendship that have defined the bilateral relationship.
Dr. Pratt, former Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, is one of the distinguished contributors to this publication. She authored Chapter Nine, titled “China–Sierra Leone Friendship Society and Cultural Diplomacy.” In this compelling chapter, Dr. Pratt emphasizes the significant role of cultural diplomacy in bridging societal gaps and strengthening international bonds. She offers an in-depth look into the work of the China-Sierra Leone Friendship Society and outlines how cultural exchanges have served as a catalyst for greater mutual understanding between the two nations.

Her contribution is informed by her extensive experience as Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, during which she spearheaded initiatives aimed at deepening cultural and tourism cooperation with China. Notably, in June 2021, she held discussions with Chinese Ambassador Hu Zhangliang on ways to enhance bilateral cultural engagement, further illustrating her commitment to international cultural relations.
The publication also includes scholarly contributions from other prominent Sierra Leoneans:
Professor David Francis, who discusses “China-Sierra Leone Win-Win Diplomacy: Context and Debate on Sino-Africa Engagements”
Professor Joe A. D. Alie, who presents a historical perspective in “History of China-Sierra Leone Relations”
Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, who explores China’s role in youth and sports development in “China’s Youth and Sports Empowerment in Sierra Leone.”
The launch of this important volume at the Chinese Embassy symbolizes the deep respect and strategic collaboration between both nations. The book stands as a valuable academic and diplomatic resource, particularly highlighting how cultural diplomacy continues to play a vital role in fostering peaceful and productive international partnerships.
